The Old Man and the Lost Horse In a village, a wise old man lived peacefully. One day, his only horse ran away. The neighbors said, “What bad luck!” But the old man calmly replied, “Maybe good, maybe bad.” A few days later, the horse returned with several wild horses. The neighbors said, “What great luck!” But the old man said, “Maybe good, maybe bad.” While taming one of the wild horses, the old man’s son fell and broke his leg. The people said, “What bad luck!” But the old man responded, “Maybe good, maybe bad.” Weeks later, soldiers arrived to take young men to war, but the old man’s son was exempt due to his broken leg. The people said, “What great luck!” and the old man smiled
